The rate shown is the mid-market rate β the midpoint between buy and sell prices on global currency markets. The actual rate you receive depends on where you convert:
- Online transfer services (Wise, Remitly): typically 0.5-1.5% above mid-market
- Korean bank wire: 1-2% spread plus 10,000-25,000 KRW wire fee
- Korean bank ATM with foreign card: mid-market rate if your card has no foreign fee (Schwab, Revolut, Wise)
- US bank wire to Korea: 2-3% spread plus $15-40 wire fee
- Airport exchange counters (ICN, GMP, JFK): 5-8% spreads β avoid
